Summer Science Camps

Want to launch a rocket into the sky, go on a dinosaur dig, investigate a crime scene, or build your own robot? Kids can do all this and more this summer at the State Museum as Mad Science of Columbia once again presents exciting and exclusive summer science camps for children ages five to 12. Camps run through Aug. 13. Before and after camp care is also available.

2010 Schedule

August 2 - 6
9 am - 12 pm Red Hot Robots 1
Learn about the uses of robots in our world and discover the science how robots use circuits and sensors to explore things around them. Use your skills to build your very own working robot (a BRAND NEW ROBOT called the Rockit Robot) to take home with you!
1 pm - 4 pm Red Hot Robots 2
 NOTE: This camp presents the same basic concepts as Red Hot Robots 1 but campers construct a different robot to take home. Neither camp is a prerequisite for the other.  Campers will be building and programming their BRAND NEW BINARY PLAYER ROBOT to take home!
9 am - 4 pm Red Hot Robots 1& 2

August 9 - 13
9 am - 12 pm NASA: Journey into Outer Space
Kids will learn about the four forces of flight, the challenges of space travel, and participate in a rocket launch!
9 am - 12 pm Crazy Chemworks
Campers will explore the chemistry of everyday life with dry ice, pH testing, glowing chemicals, sticky polymers, beakers and flasks. 
1 pm - 4 pm Reactions in Action
Campers will get microscopic as they explore the basic building blocks of the universe – atoms and molecules and how they interact in interesting combinations.
1 pm - 4 pm Crime Scene, Cells & Chemistry
Discover life in the form of cells and organs and how science can help you solve a crime.
9 am - 4 pm NASA/ Reactions in Action Combo Camp

9 am - 4 pm Crazy Chemworks/Crime Scene Combo Camp
